    Michelle will talk about the importance of data protection for fieldworkers and highlight some key changes, under the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) which will come into force in the UK in May 2018. Even though the UK has decided to withdraw from the EU researchers need to continue to prepare for these important changes and Michelle will provide some top GDPR Compliance Tips that will help you to understand your legal obligations.

    Dr Michelle Goddard is Director of Policy and Standards at the MRS responsible for promoting and protecting MRS quality standards. A graduate of the London School of Economics and Political Science, she received her Ph.D. in Law from Osgoode Hall Law School, York University, Canada in 2011 and has a wealth of experience in consumer market regulation and research gained in a range of academic, policy and enforcement roles over the last 20 years. Involved in advocacy for the research sector in the EU, Michelle has been following the twists and turns of the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the negotiations between European institutions on data protection and is ideally placed to discuss how this impacts on research.
